My calling to become an End-of-Life Doula (Death Doula) was clear to me from an extremely young age, I just wasn’t sure on how to get there. Through my own personal experiences of trauma, loss, grief, and depression, I knew I needed to heal myself and had no idea where to start. I started my personal healing journey when I was hired at a local Funeral Home, where I started out as a Funeral Attendant. Through the years I had wonderful opportunities in the industry which gave me irreplaceable bereavement experience.
What I was not expecting, is that every family I met, assisted and supported with their grief and loss, I healed. Little by little, I was able to grieve my own personal losses with each and every family. I was honored to be a part of these family moments at the most painful and difficult intimate times. They taught me how to heal which in turn, I helped the families heal. Through the upcoming years, I had remained in the bereavement and the funeral industry but was still searching for more. I had heard about End-of-Life Doulas (Death Doulas) through a friend and took little time to look up and start gathering information. It was an instant fit! The Conscious Dying Institute was offering an End-of-Life Doula certification course in Vancouver, BC. I registered immediately! The rest is history.
